Marine cables are critical to the success of your subsea ROV project. This means you need a supplier who thinks with you about the final solution and how that solution should work in combination with other components.
This process is often called co-creation – collaborating to create a final solution that optimizes your systems.
Join Matthieu Scheffers, Business Development & Sales Manager at DeRegt, and Sander van Leeuwen, R&D Manager at DeRegt, as they dive into co-creation in designing ROV cables. They discuss what co-creation exactly is, why you should consider it, and the value of co-creating a subsea project.
To hear more about how co-creation can support your ROV cable design and, in the end, your subsea project, watch the full episode or read on for the key takeaways from this episode.
Co-creation means working together to get the best possible solution for your whole ROV system design – so more than only finding the best ROV cable.
There is no such thing as one possible cable design that fits. There are many different concepts and versions that could work for your ROV system. Maybe you want something that is more robust, or more reliable, or maybe a cost effective solution. These choices you make for the cable will have an impact on all other parts of your system. So you need to take that into account to find the best fitting solution.
You achieve this by sitting down together in an early stage of the project, to discuss and think along about the desired system and how it should work in combination with other components.
Build to print is not unusual – you've been working with a cable design for years, so you want to copy it. But is this the best possible solution?
Sander explains this with a case where he was asked to copy an existing cable design. However, looking at the construction, it was better to make some adjustments to make the cable more torque balanced, so it does not rotate as much on the load.
This example shows you need to share and discuss functional system requirements to determine if your desired cable is the best solution. You might make a better decision when presented with different cable options and their impact.
When discussing ROV or subsea projects there is more to it than just the ROV cable. In order to make your subsea project a guaranteed success, every component must be exactly right. Each component is a small part of a bigger whole, but they’re all equally important. Furthermore, a project is not complete or finished when the desired cable is designed, build and tested. You need to consider the complete lifecycle of your cable and project into account.
So you need to cooperate with all parties involved through the entire process. By ensuring that all components are properly taken care of by experts, you will have less to worry about in terms of the big picture which is beneficial for the project as a whole.
Marine cables are critical to the success of your subsea ROV project. This means you need a supplier who thinks about the final solution and how that solution should work in combination with other components. At DeRegt, we call this process co-creation: creating the final solution that optimizes your system.
But what does co-creation mean for others? Is it that important? And how do you achieve this?
In our upcoming webinar, I will try to find answers to these questions by discussing ROV cable design and production processes with other experts and thought leaders in the ROV market.
