The ROV Podcast

Episode 02: Relationship Management during an ROV cable production process, with Michael Malling.

Dynamic Subsea cables are critical to the success of your subsea ROV project. This means you need a supplier who thinks with you about the final solution and how that solution should work in combination with other components.

This process is often called co-creation – collaborating to create a final solution that optimizes your systems.

Join Matthieu Scheffers, Business Development & Sales Manager at DeRegt, and Michael Malling, Advisor at Advisetech, as they discuss how relationship management and partnerships work during an ROV cable production process.

Three top takeaways:

Takeaway 1: What does co-creation mean for you?

Often companies who want to buy a product give their detailed specifications to the supplier. Then they ask the supplier to produce what is specified. But there are more important factors that are not taken into account by the supplier. Share the following requirements instead of the specifications:

  • What is the problem that needs to be taken into account?
  • What do you really want to achieve?
  • What are the environmental factors which need to be considered?

Talk with the supplier; they know about the possibilities and the latest technologies to solve your challenge.

Takeaway 2: Close cooperation between company and supplier is important

A successful example from my experience was when cable was created through close collaboration between a company and a supplier. They could make the diameter much smaller, resulting in less weight; there could be more cable on the winch, which meant less drag and less fuel consumption. It is a rolling ball; without close cooperation, this wasn’t possible.

Takeaway 3: The new type of win-win agreement

It is simple: You are going to a shop and buying cables A and B. You usually have a standard contract. But there is much more value in an agreement with a win-win situation. Did you think about the possibility of less fuel consumption in these times of increasing fuel costs? Have you thought about implementing real forefront technology and testing with the supplier to have profit-sharing agreements? You can save money and try new technology in real life.

Learn more about co-creation in the ROV Market

Marine cables are critical to the success of your subsea ROV project. This means you need a supplier who thinks about the final solution and how that solution should work in combination with other components. At DeRegt, we call this process co-creation: creating the final solution that optimizes your system.

But what does co-creation mean for others? Is it that important? And how do you achieve this?

In our upcoming webinar, I will try to find answers to these questions by discussing ROV cable design and production processes with other experts and thought leaders in the ROV market
